Compaq Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Compaq (a portmanteau of Compatibility And Quality, occasionally referred to as CQ prior to its final logo) was a company founded in 1982 that developed, sold, and supported computers and related products and services. Compaq produced some of the first IBM PC compatible computers, being the first company to legally reverse engineer the IBM Personal Computer.

A user mentioned, "HP wanted Compaq because in those days Compaq was a high-end brand, but they mismanaged it. Some would say that precious little of what HP did in the last 10 years was well done, anyway. I have HP machines, but they never tried to be in the niche that Compaq occupied. Now HP is trying to use the Omen models to sort of pull out of machines that one just buys because they are not too expensive. If only they had managed the Compaq brand better!!"

Operations Supervisor (Former Employee) says

"Getting pretty annoyed with Indeed having me fill out all of these surveys. had I known i would have deleted the no related work experiences. waste of time"

Production and Test Supervisor (Former Employee) says

"Compaq was taken over by HP several years ago -- it was a very well-known event. Many people lost their jobs either prior to or after the takeover, including myself."

Engineering Manager (Former Employee) says

"I started working at Compaq when it was still a relatively small company. We were taking on IBM and the "big guys"! Rod Canion would have company meetings in the company cafeteria. Then one day I was sitting in my office and looking our the window as the factory day shift let out. And I realized that I wasn't working for a small company any more. . . I really knew that when I was part of a reduction in force in 1992. Compaq taught me so much as an engineer. I really cut my teeth with this company. Product development, high volume manufacturer, risk assessment, specification development, writing, contract negotiation, ergonomic design, resource management, budgetary planning, project management, program management, engineering management, team management, etc. I will always be grateful to Compaq for the experience, the skills, the lessons and the people that I met while working there. It was a wonderful time in my life.Wonderful environment, benefits and people.Lots of travel, too little time at home; undervalued by management"

Computer Operator/Tech (Former Employee) says

"When i was working at the company I enjoyed the work.. We enjoyed working with the Company I loved how the office was perfume free, when we had a rodent problem they did not harm the environment with chemical they had a unique way of looking after any of the pests. If you could not find a babysitter right away we had a area were an older child could work on a games computer until they were picked up.. it was not an ongoing daycare just for the in between times when parents were caught off guard by a shift. We were all professional hand picked technicans that worked well together as a team and we were trained by Compaq..........the way that they fired everyone and closed the office that was not nice. If offered I would work there again.the hours and the fellow workers6 month contracts"

Software Engineering Manage (Former Employee) says

"I worked with Digital until Compaq took over. The people were exceptional and the environment was rich with talent. The transition (our UNIX based group being transitioned into a PC manufacturing company) was not well planned for, and there was immediate erosion. The function of my group was discontinued."

"Købte for 6 mdr siden en pc i Bilka. Nu er den i stykker . Bilka er ligeglade og siger det er min egen skyld ellers jeg kan ringe til compaq... ja tak det ville jeg også gerne men desværre kan jeg hverken opdrive et tlf nr eller en e mail adr. Så 0 stjerner til både bilka og Hp compaq"
